In 2022 Mercedes-Benz has finally decided to launch and assemble the EQS in India to stay ahead in the competitive Indian market. This car is a benchmark in the EV segment as it is the most luxurious electric vehicle ever built in the world.

Mercedes-Benz EQS 2022 Launch: Key Points

  • Apart from the India launch, Mercedes also will assemble the EQS in India to make it more cost-effective.
  • An EV SUV is also expected to come to India this year.
  • More high performance and luxury vehicles from Mercedes to launch in 2022.

About EQS

The EQS is the electric version of the mighty S-Class and there are no compromises in the lux feel and comfort that Mercedes always deliver. It is not built on the existing ICE platform on which the EQC & EQB are built, in fact, it is built on the new and specially built EVA platform which is the new benchmark in the electric vehicle industry (if we’re not talking about Tesla obviously).

Although it is still not revealed by Mercedes which powertrain of the two – 334hp EQS 450+, 523hp EQS 580 will EQS have but on the bright side, both of these powertrains are run by a 107.8kWh battery which has a “claimed” range of 770 km on a full charge. There’s also an AMG version of the EQS which is also expected to come to India.

The EQS is fully loaded with tech as there are three interlinked screens on the dashboard which are capable of performing different functions. The standard EQS will offer the same amount of space as the long-wheelbase version of the S-Class. The electric nature of the car helps it stay silent on the road from the outside and the insulation is pretty good too. The interior is also top of the class in the EQS.

EQS To Be Assembled In India: Why, When & Where?

Well, it started with the local assembly of the lux limos by Mercedes then things upgraded with time and currently we have high-performance AMG models assembled in India, and not just that, Mercedes is starting to assemble the EV line in India starting with the EQS which is a very major upgrade.

But the question still remains, Why is this happening now? Why not with the EQC and other EVs from Mercedes?

And the answer is that the CBU Imports had a whole different system of assembling the units and the new platform of the EQS is suitable for assembly in India. One more reason is to stay at top of their game as other companies such as Jaguar, Audi, BMW have also started to set foot in India with the I-Pace, E-Tron GT and the iX but none of them is assembling their EVs in India and Merc wants to be the first one to do so ( Classic Merc, Aren’t they?).

Firstly there will be limited edition CBU import units of the EQS to check the market response then probably by mid-2022, the production process will start at the Mercedes-Benz plant at Chakan, Maharashtra.

Other New Expected Launches By Mercedes In 2022:

There is a wide range of Mercs to be launched in India in 2022 and it includes most of the SUVs including the All-New EQC and other non-electric cars, the new C-Class is also going to be launched. Not only the C-Class but the Mercedes Maybach S 580 is also set to launch in March 2022 and now coming to the high-performance AMG line, the AMG GT Black-Series, the SL roadster & the GT63s e-performance are also set to come to India.

Some other EQ cars are also coming, including the EQE sedan, AMG EQS 53 & possibly the Compact SUV EQB.
